The event will showcase the Commission’s work to strengthen Europe's radioisotopes ecosystem and provide an opportunity to discuss related issues with public authorities, scientists, healthcare professionals, and industry from Luxembourg and the greater region.
The EU occupies a globally leading position in the production of medical radioisotopes, thanks to its research infrastructure, industrial expertise and strong clinical ecosystem. Hospitals across Europe perform 10 million nuclear medicine procedures a year, mostly for diagnostic imaging in oncology, cardiology and neurology. Furthermore, targeted radionuclide therapies and theranostics are increasingly important for cancer treatment.
