Description
Daniel Benamouzig is a sociologist and Senior Research Professor at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), affiliated with the Centre for the Sociology of Organizations (CSO) at Sciences Po. He holds the Health Chair at Sciences Po and serves as Chair of the Scientific Council of the French School of Public Health (EHESP). He has served on numerous scientific and policy advisory bodies in the field of public health and has worked with several French health agencies, including the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS), ANSES, Santé Publique France (SPF), and the National Cancer Institute (INCa). During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was a member of the French COVID-19 Scientific Council, advising the President of the Republic and the French Government from 2020 to 2022.
His research focuses on public health policy, healthcare organization, and the governance of health systems. In particular, he examines the role of institutions, healthcare stakeholders, and ideas—especially economic reasoning—in shaping health policy and healthcare reform. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and several books, including La santé au miroir de l'Économie (PUF, 2005), Économie et sociologie (with François Cusin, PUF, 2005), Des Lobbys au menu, les entreprises agroalimentaires contre la santé publique (with Joan Cortinas-Muños, Raisons d'agir, 2022), and Des Lobbys au comptoir, l'industrie de l'alcool contre la santé (Raisons d'agir, 2025).
