Description

Laurent Chambaud is a public health physician and Inspector General at the French General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (IGAS). He began his career in maternal and child health services (PMI) between 1979 and 1980 before moving to Quebec, where he worked as a medical advisor within the community healthcare network until 1987. During this period, he earned a Master's degree in Community Health from the Université de Montréal. Upon returning to France, he completed his training as a Public Health Medical Inspector at the French National School of Public Health (ENSP) in 1988. He then served at the Departmental Directorate for Health and Social Affairs (DDASS) of Finistère until 1990, before returning to ENSP as a lecturer, a position he held until 1996. From 1996 to 1998, he was seconded to the European Commission as a National Expert. In 1998, he coordinated the institutional development project of the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) before becoming Director of the DDASS of Mayenne, a role he held until 2002. Between 2002 and 2006, he served as Director of the Regional Directorate for Health and Social Affairs (DRASS) of Franche-Comté. After joining the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (IGAS) in 2006, he was appointed Director of Public Health at the Île-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS) in 2010. He subsequently joined the ministerial cabinet of Marisol Touraine, Minister of Social Affairs and Health, serving from June 2012 to April 2013 as Advisor for Public Health Policy and Health Security. In April 2013, he was appointed Director of the French School of Public Health (EHESP), a position he held until his retirement in September 2022. Since then, Laurent Chambaud has become a member of the French National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE). He is a Knight of the French Legion of Honour and was awarded the Andrija Štampar Medal in 2022. He also serves as Senior Lead for the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) on the impact of climate change on health and is a lecturer at Sciences Po Paris.
