Biografie
Dr. Markus Oei is a Dutch ENT surgeon with over 25 years of clinical experience and a pioneer in healthcare innovation. Early in his career, he was at the forefront of evidence-based medicine implementation and co-developed the first integrated hospital portal in the Netherlands in 2005. He contributed to the implementation of SNOMED medical terminology and the development of patient information systems. As one of the authors of the national position paper on shared decision-making by the Federation of Medical Specialists, he helped embed patient-centred care in clinical practice.
Dr. Oei is the founder of several national initiatives that drive the digital transformation of healthcare. His current work bridges clinical practice and system innovation—focusing on AI-assisted diagnosis, shared decision-making, and real-world policy evaluation. He is involved in research and implementation projects on hybrid care, multilingual health communication, and patient empowerment for underserved populations. Dr. Oei brings a pragmatic yet visionary perspective on the responsible use of AI to improve care delivery across sectors.
